*In defense of the title
Newtonian Physics certainly does not apply for speeds approaching
the speed of light. You might argue Einstein's Theory of Special
Relativity applies so long as Mr. Asquith's velocity is less than
the speed of light. We should then be able to express his
relativistic time by
t = t0 [ 1 - (v/c)2 ] 1/2
where c is the speed of light, t0 is time
in Mr. Asquith's frame of reference, and v is his velocity.
This argument fails because clearly, from in the photograph above,
Mr. Asquith is accelerating. We
can't use Special Relativity in an accelerating frame of reference
(we would have to analyze the distortion of space with Einstein's
Theory of General Relativity). Furthermore, if Mr. Asquith's staff
is rotating faster than the speed of light then none of
Einstein's theories can be used. In this case Mr.
Watkins may have, in fact, photographed a rip in the space time
continuum centered right in the middle or our school. In that case
modern physics does not apply and the title of the
photograph is apt.
