K.O. Child Assault/Abduction Response Effort s(K.O. CAREs)

| At K.O. we are committed to teaching children about safety and self defense. In response to the recent assault on a child in our community, K.O. developed a special education program for young children. In our community many young children walk to school alone, spend time alone after school (before the return of working parents), or depend upon young siblings as baby sitters. The child safety program was developed to teach important safety awareness principles to children. | |||

| Children need no martial arts training to
understand basic principles (such as not to let a stranger in the house,
and not to tell a stranger on the phone that they are home alone). This
program is offered to schools, religious groups, and community centers
involved in educating young children. For more information, please Contact
Master John Ozuna.

Child Safety Seminars Benefit Local ChildrenBy Shaun Sittinger In order to help children learn how to be aware and safe when confronted with potentially dangerous situations, K.O. has been conducting free child safety seminars.

In these seminars, children, which include both K.O. students as well as other kids, are taught the necessary skills and tools which can be used to prevent them from being kidnapped or attacked. The seminars, which are taught by Master Ozuna, K.O. instructors, and students, teach the children some self-defense skills as well as other useful tools and lessons. Certain lesson, such as how to deal with strangers and dangerous people, are very valuable in teaching kids and parents how to prevent and avoid dangerous situations. Some lessons taught to and practiced by the children include learning how to deal with a stranger who is at the front door or lurking around on the street, and even though most children realize that most people are not dangerous, they are taught to always walk with others if possible and not to trust strangers. Children are shown and taught to be cautious and aware, and that if a stranger approaches in a suspicious or menacing manner, they should be loud in order to attract attention from bystanders. Next, they address the creep as a stranger so that onlookers realize that there is a problem and that the child is confronted with a person who is not a family member or a friend. This should also shock the stranger, who will probably run way from the area. Martial arts related skills are also taught to the kids just in case they can’t avoid or prevent a dangerous person or situation from threatening them. The children are taught marital arts self-defense techniques to counter common attacks; for example if an attacker grabs the child by the arm. The kids learn to strike with punches, kicks, and claws to sensitive areas of an attackers body such as their eyes, throat, groin, or stomach. These techniques are especially valuable to little kids who need every possible advantage against a large adult attacker. As our main goal, we hope these skills will save and protect children in case they are ever in a dangerous situation.
